Abstract
Background: The prognostic value of preoperative eustachain tube functional status in the outcome of myringoplasty has always been a matter of debate. Of equal debate, is the physiological significance of various tests employed for testing eustachian tube functions. Aim: A prospective study was carried out in a tertiary referral center with the aim to investigate the role of preoperative endoscopic evaluation of eustachian tube function in the outcomes of myringoplasty. Method: Eustachian tube function tests were carried out on 50 ears with dry central perforation using flourescein dye and nasopharyngoscopy and the postoperative results were analyzed. Result: The study showed that there was no correlation between eustachian tube functional status and results of myringoplasty. Rather, the condition of middle ear mucosa had a direct bearing on the results of myringoplasty.
